Because I don't call all men rapists, violent thugs, scum etc..... Because I am not a feminazi or a fat hairy man hating lesbian. I am a strong, independant, man loving, equality wanting, pacifist, heterosexual.
Men aren't scum, not all feminists are assholes like Greer and that. It kind of gets me sad that I have to keep defending what I honestly believe to be a movement about equality; because of those foul radicals that make everyone of us rational thinking people look like crap! Why do feminist object to being called?
Why? Because nobody, feminist or not, likes to be called fat, hairy, gay (if they aren't gay, anyways), etc. It's very rude. Even if it's true it's a rude thing to say. It's also very childish.
Also, you shouldn't judge every single feminist by the likes of the Dworkin's and Greer's among them. Most women do not agree with them or feel that way about men. You should not assume that they do. That's like assuming that I agree with the nutjobs from Westboro Baptist Church because I go to a baptist church as well. You do know what happens when you assume things, do you not?Why do feminist object to being called?
Well I suppose after hundreds of years the names men have called us we object strongly to the names you call us now. Men have had 30 years or so of being told not to use these names and now what your complaining. So my sympathy for how your feeling is nearly non existant but on saying this what you call something or someone has a large affect on it so no one should use these disrespectful names both men and women should learn that. There is no disputing of the facts that men do rape and abuse women and there is no disputing that women can treat men in the same way but history shows that this is not nearly as common as the injustices done to women by men in relation to rape abuse and violence towards women. Lets make it stop here and have respect for all people woman or man thats where it should start.
Non of those things are at all flattering and I believe most people enjoy being flattered.
Then again non of those things they say about men are flattering to them either. Perhaps, they are just so angry they don't stop to think about the consequences of how their speak makes them look.
What those feminist leaders say is no less accusatory, bigoted, biased or hate based then the words they claim their opposition has for them. Hate begets hate.
Because it's an obvious, desperate attempt at shaming tactics. IF you really had anything to actually find objectionable within feminism, you would go on that, rather than resorting to outright lies and 5th grade level name calling to try to demonize a group of people that seek equal rights. People who use that tactic fall into three categories:
Bigots
Women-haters
Very ignorant, uneducated people who are weak minded and unable to think for themselves.
Or, All of the above.
Which are you?
because i am none of those things. it's just daft to call me fat when i have a 26'; waist. *shrugs*
personal attempts at insults are only used by anti-feminists because they have nothing else to throw at feminists. it's an attempt to derail actual debate and demonise the opposition
actually tbh i don't particularly care anymore. go ahead call me fat and hairy if it makes you feel better
edit
know it all - lol :-) no it isn't actually and if i was much thinner i would be anorexic. would you like my weight, bmi and body fat percentage?
I don't object really, same as names I'm called for being the kind of woman I am, the sort of beliefs I have, my work, my partner/s, my race/s...people can say what they like, it rarely has much of an affect on me.
Just because you call me these things doesn't mean it's magick and I'll suddenly *become* any of them...say what you like =o)
What if you call Andrea Dworkin and company those names, then, and refrain from calling people names if they've never called you, or men in general, names?
I'm not even a feminist but the answer to that should be obvious.
No one likes to be called an unsatisfactory name, no matter the situation.
I think this is a dumb question to ask.
People don't like being called names that are rude, mean, and uncalled for.
End of story.
Because they're cheap, stupid insults, and the vast majority of us DO NOT agree with early extremist factions of feminism.
Edit: Nobody here openly supports female supremacy. Posting blatant lies doesn't help your cause.
I'm not a feminist but just because one persona of a group calls you a name doesn't mean the whole group is responsible. That's like saying because some leaders have been racist, black peopel should hate all white people. EG
Well, leaving aside the truth or falsity of the accusations, wouldn't you object to being called those names?
That was your question.
They're just trying to stamp out the seeds of hate.
Sadly, some of the more pro-active members use this as an excuse to offer cruel-hearted condemnations upon anyone who dares defy them.
No, I can't understand why you'd feel that way when the vast majority of feminists are nothing like them in either appearance or thought.
Anymore I just consider the source. Scum comments come from scum. If you agree the comments should stop why did you post this....
Eh....sticks and stones.
Call me whatever you want, I don't really care.
I know the truth.
Because we have the right to be respected.
For once, I don't have much to add. Blue Monk said it well.
But, yeah, feminists aren't always concerned with their movement being fair. Apparently, it's possible to be fighting for equal rights when you're clearly against a specific group of people.
They take everything too personally.
Ugly people never like it when you hold a mirror in front of them.
because the truth usaully hurts
